William Van Catton, 72, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Born in Tecumseh, MI on August 24, 1949, Bill, as he was known by all, was the oldest son of George and Roberta Catton. He graduated from Bowling Green State University and worked in Grand Blanc Community Schools as a teacher, coach and mentor for thirty-four years.
Bill loved sports, particularly U of M football and basketball, Detroit Tigers baseball and more recently Liverpool Football Club. He loved to travel the world, including visits to Russia, Spain, New Zealand, England and Croatia, but his heart was always with his family, the people he cherished above all else. Nothing made him smile more than his two grandchildren and being their Papa. He will be remembered for his recurring family tales and jokes and his wisdom and mentoring, always wanting to make the next generation better and successful.
Bill is survived by his wife, Susan, sons Andrew and Christopher (Shannon), grandchildren Pearl and Van, brothers Robert (Cheryl) and Brian and sister Barbara Robertson (Carlos). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Betsy.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 10th, at 1pm at Hill Funeral Home in Grand Blanc. Visitation with the family will begin at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Major League Baseball Youth Development Foundation.
