On 12/5/24, her 84th birthday, Sylvia Sidney Wardrop passed away peacefully, in the presence of those who loved her. Sylvia proudly worked for the University of Michigan – Flint, retiring after 30 years of loyal service. An avid U of M football fan, she loved to cheer on Michigan and sing the fight song. Her hobbies included camping, jazz clubs/concerts, rock hunting, racquetball & attending her sons’ many sports and artistic activities. Sylvia loved to cook and could often be found engrossed in a book, which was her “happy place”. She cared for the love of her life, her husband Hal, until his death in 1993. She loved telling others stories of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed discussing politics, particularly with those possessing opposing views. A lifelong activist in her community, even after retiring, she went on to attain the highly esteemed status of President of the Residents Council at The Waters of Syracuse, where she was a fan favorite of the wonderful staff that treated her like family and her fellow residents with whom she loved to engage.
Surviving are Sons: Paul (Brenda) Bertha; David (Daphna) Wardrop; Mike (Amy) Wardrop. Grandchildren: Melanie Bregan; Adam Ford; Nick Johnson; Mark Walker; Kevin (Nicole) Ogle; Aaron (Dominique) Ford; Tasia Bertha; Nataleigh (Jake) Barrett; Gabrielle Bertha; Rachael Hall; Holly (Jonah) Krylo; Devlin Bertha; Noël (Jeff) Kemp; Janae Hall. 25 Great-grandchildren. 1 Great-great- grandchild. Nieces: Nylar (Charles) Jupree; Nadine Roberts; Vanessa Terrell; Donna Martin; Renee Craighead; Nephews: Hubert Roberts; Darryl Roberts; Johnny (Karen) Washington Jr; Condy (Josephine) Johnson,James (Cynthia) Moore and Tony Moore; Numerous Great, Great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by husband Hal Wardrop, son Guy Bertha and niece Grace Wright.
A funeral service for Sylvia will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 12:00PM at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan with visitation one hour prior. Sylvia will be laid to rest at Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris, Michigan
