Peter Gus Ankney

Peter Gus Ankney, 76, a loving father and grandfather passed away on 4/16/2025 in Grand Blanc, MI. Pete was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on 11/16/1948 to his parents Mercedes McGosley and Robert Charles Ankney of Lower Burrell, PA. He was a devoted grandfather to Parker Ankney and his son Daniel Ankney. Pete also shared a very close bond with his sister Mercedes and nieces Emilie and Kaitlyn Massimino of Lower Burrell Pennsylvania.

Pete was known for his humor, generosity, and a huge passion for Lionell toy trains. As a child he would watch trains go by with his grandfather Gus. His love of trains turned into large collection of which he established a work in progress layout in his basement. He was able to pass on his excitement to his grandson Parker who took joy in watching and engaging with his train layout.

Pete graduated from Penn Tech in electronics and started his career with General Motors in Milford. It was at GM where he has his most fond memories working in the tire and wheel development lab. Pete would take vehicles on the testing track and when unsupervised it went just a bit beyond what GM would deem as acceptable. In his second and only other job he worked for Defiance Testing and Engineering in the electronics group to help setup vehicle component and system testing. During this stint in his career, he traveled as far as Saudi Arabia on a special assignment for Ford. Pete was also very involved with Karate and eventually became an instructor at Huron High School in Ann Arbor.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents Mercedes and Robert. He is survived by his sons Daniel Ankney (Wendy – Wife, Parker Grandson), and Jason Ankney. His 4 siblings along with many other nieces and nephews. The siblings include Mercedes Massimino (Nieces – Kaitlyn and Emilie), Perry Ankney (Diane – Wife), Bobby Ankney (Cindy – Wife), and Linda Mathews.

A celebration of life will be held service for Peter will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 11:00am to 2:00PM at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc MI 48439.
