Maurice was born in Flint, Michigan on May 31, 1934 to Ross H. and Beatrice I. (Thompson) Midgley. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957. He also served in the National Guard and helped with the clean-up during the Beecher Tornado in 1953. On March 30, 1957 in Greenville, Alabama at First Methodist Church is where he married Marion (Pearson) Midgley. After his discharge, they moved to Burton, Michigan and became members of the Lincoln Park United Methodist Church and later Atherton United Methodist. He was employed by General Motors where he worked as a machine repairman retiring after 31 1/2 years.
Maurice was very passionate about hunting. He was a champion in pistol and shotgun shooting and won many trophies. He was a member of the Grand Blanc Huntsman's Club, Mitchell Farm (pheasant hunting), Flushing Rifle and Pistol Club, Durand Sportsman Club and Frankenmuth Gun Club. He was an enthusiastic hunter who enjoyed hunting big game. He also made several cross country trips on his Honda Gold Wing. He was also an excellent photographer and had a collection of antique cameras.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Marion, of 65 years; children, Frances (Michael) Hutson, Maurice Jr. (Anita) Midgley; 8 grandchildren, Miriam Fraelich, Todd Fraelich, Luke Fraelich, Anna Fraelich, George Fraelich, Joel Midgley, Jeron Midgley and Jacob Midgley; 11 great grandchildren, Logan, Ruby, Summer, Lila, Elaina, Alyssa, Winston, Ivan, Ariana, Jake and Kallista; sister, Shirley Vecellio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, Ross H. and Beatrice I. Midgley; his siblings Ross Midgley and Duane Midgley, son-in-law, Steve Fraelich; and his beloved beagle, Suzi.
Visitation for Maurice will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hill Funeral Home - 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 11:00 am at Hill Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior. Following the service, interment along with Military Honors will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
