Mary was born the daughter of Henry and Marcella (Krantz) DeYonker in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan on September 5, 1932. She graduated from St. Martin High School in Detroit, class of 1951. She married Marshall Robert McFarland on June 5, 1956 in Detroit. Mary and Bob started their family in Livonia and then moved to Grand Blanc in 1971. Mary was very active in the lives of her five children growing up. She chauffeured them nonstop and attended every one of their events. She also babysat for the neighborhood kids once hers had grown. She worked the Friday night Bingo at Holy Family, where she was a parish member for almost 50 years. Mary and Bob were regular faces at Big Boy Restaurant in Grand Blanc for many years. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, dogs, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and especially scratch off lottery tickets.
Mary is survived by her children Kevin McFarland, Colleen (Larry) Diemer, Brian (Kristin) McFarland, Shawn McFarland, and Shannon (David) Marttila; grandchildren Robert (Nicole) Diemer, Eric Diemer, Brendan Marttila, Cassidy McFarland, and Logan McFarland; great-grandchild Landon Diemer; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband Marshall (Bob) McFarland; parents Henry and Marcella (Krantz) DeYonker; and siblings Marjorie Mangold, Jeanne Kippert, Betty Meier, and Barbara Cash.
Services for Mary will be private.
