Thomas Mills Moses

Moses, Thomas M, 81, went to his eternal reward on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at his home. He was born October 12, 1933, in Martinsville, VA, to the late Marbut and Kate Moses. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Lee (McKaughan) Moses; three daughters: Lynne (Nathan) Jorgenson of Fayetteville, AR; Lisa (John) Miller of Winter Springs, FL; and Leslie (Garrett) Morrison of St. Cloud, FL; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Tom focused his career in the area of building codes, administration, and city planning. Over the past 60 years, he served as building official for the cities of Martinsville, VA, and Winter Park, FL. He then took that experience and moved to working with the Gypsum Association and as technical director and President of the Southern Building Code Congress International. His expertise called him to the national boards of the National Fire Protection Association, Underwriters Laboratories Inc., and the Fire Protection Research Foundation (NFPA). Tom was integral to the establishment of Walt Disney World building codes and planning, establishing the Reedy Creek Improvement District where he served as Vice President and District Administrator.

For over 50 years, he was actively involved in the music of Christian worship and praise. No matter where he was, there always seemed to be an opportunity to be involved in offering glory to God through music. He felt strongly that church music ministry was his most important calling and responsibility, second only to that of husband and father. His ministry participation stretched from early years in the revival team of Dr W.E. Hardy, to churches in Virginia, Illinois, Alabama and Florida – most recently serving for many years as the music minister at First Baptist Church of Pine Castle, Orlando, FL.He will be missed by all who knew him. They will remember his quick wit, Southern charm, great intellect, and his ability to make others feel valuable and welcomed.A celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 24, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Pine Castle.The family will receive visitors prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Dora Christian Academy.
