Terry Leon Schultz

Terry was born in La Porte, Indiana to Nylla Eloa (Zahn) and the late George C. Schultz. The oldest of three boys, he enjoyed building model airplanes (remote control and string line) and go-karts. Terry played trombone and baritone horn in many school groups, from junior high school through college. His passion was progressive jazz and he was a member of the Newport Jazz Quartet and the Tom Milo Big Band, playing trombone and occasionally piano. He also played piano at the local Lions Club meetings. Terry earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, and Masters in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.

Terry worked briefly as a systems engineer with General Telephone & Electronics before joining the US Air Force where he served for 20 years before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his early US Air Force program management career, he led the development and deployment of the first precision laser target designator and subsequent laser guided bomb programs. He held various staff officer positions with Air Force Material Command and was the Special Assistant to the USAF Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development and Acquisition. He was a project manager in the F-16 program office and held the position of Director of Projects in the B-2 System Program Office with responsibilities for all aspects of managing the engineering development of this strategic weapons system during it’s early development.

Following his Air Force career Terry joined Lockheed Martin Corporation and worked for the company nearly 25 years before retiring in late 2013. During his career at Lockheed Martin he held several Program Director assignments including Ground Sensor Systems, Apache Longbow Fire Control Radar, the F/A-16 NITE Hawk laser target designator, and the Missile Launch Detector for the F-22A. He was also the Business Development Director for Missiles and Fire Control, LANTIRN, and Director of Logistics and Operations with Space Systems.

After retiring from Lockheed Martin, Terry briefly held the position of Chief Operating Officer for PatientFlow Rx, a company bringing process efficiency to the healthcare industry.

Terry was a Lions Club member in several local communities, a life member and chapter president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, served as the Chairman of the Board of a continuous care retirement center, President of the congregational board of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and was an officer of his homeowners association. Terry enjoyed all kinds of trains, especially garden railroads. He enjoyed road trips in his BMW. He was a lifelong musician and singer.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, George. He is survived by his loving wife Vida Ann; daughters Heather (Arthur) Hernandez of Orlando, and Kristin (Michael) Soukup of South Barrington, Illinois; mother, Nylla Eloa of LaPorte, Indiana; brothers Thomas of St. Charles, Illinois and James of LaPorte, Indiana. Terry is also survived by three grandchildren: Lauren Mayhercy, and Karina and Parker Soukup.

Terry’s life will be celebrated with Funeral Services on Saturday, April 11th at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Oviedo at 1pm, with visitation prior to services, from 11am-1pm. Visitation will also be at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Gotha on Friday, April 10th, from 5pm-8pm.
