Born April 28, 1928
Died November 1, 2017
Sally Eleanor Schumacher of Orlando, FL, died peacefully at her home at the Life Care Center of Orlando. She was surrounded by her loving family and supportive care-givers.
Sally was born in Brooklyn, New York. She lived her young life in Garden City, Long Island. She attended and graduated from Wilson College in 1949. Soon after graduating, Sally met and fell in love with her handsome husband, Howie. They married on June 14, 1952 and raised six children together. As a family they lived in Long Island, Illinois, Ohio and Connecticut before moving to Florida in 1976 where they remained for these last thirty years. Sally was a wonderful homemaker, always supportive of Howard and their children. Family was Sally’s life line and similarly, her family cherished her and will always remember her loving and sweet spirit as well as her gentle kisses.
Social activities were always critically important to Sally. She was a practicing Catholic whose faith was extremely important to her. She was always active in her parish choirs and loved to sing! In her last years, she crafted beautiful jewelry and art work at Life Care and was an exuberant participant in all of their social activities and events. Her Life Care “family” loved her ever present smile and positive attitude; all of her friends, as well as family, will truly miss her fun-loving nature.
In addition to her family and friends, Sally loved all of the animal companions who filled her life with joy - Baron, Cinder, Jazzie, Daisy-Mae, Sherry, Whiskers and most of all Murphy. She was a faithful donor to the Best Friends Animal Society as well as The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary - which is in Tucson, Arizona. Yes....Sally had a real soft spot for pigs!
Sally is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Howard Schumacher, Jr. who resides in Orlando. She cherished her children, Kathleen Schumacher (deceased), Helen Donaher and her husband Kevin of Burlington, CT, John Howard Schumacher, III of Oakland, CA, Joan Schumacher of Manhattan, NY, Lawrence Schumacher (deceased), his widow Alisa Schumacher, and Dianne Schumacher, of Altamonte Springs. She was predeceased by her sister Suzanne Bacon formally of Colchester, VT and has a brother Jean Boudreau and his wife, Judy, who live in Centerport, Long Island. Sally enjoyed the stories about the birth and activities of her six grandchildren - Ryan, Michael, Erin, Larry, John and Nellie as well as the current six great grandchildren (with more on the way)! She welcomed and cherished their visits. She also has several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrating her life at Resurrection Catholic Church in Winter Garden, Florida at noon. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Best Friends Animal Society, The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary in Tucson, Arizona or the National Stroke Association.
