Margaret “Peggy” Healy Hawkins, 97 years old, of Orlando, Florida, entered her heavenly home on
May 31, 2022.
She was born on September 21, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late James P. and Anne (Cooney) Healy, the youngest of their six children. She met the love of her life, Charles T. Hawkins in Baltimore and they were married in 1945. They were devoted to each other for 64 years until his death in 2009.
They started their married life in Miami where she gave birth to their first child. The young family was transferred to Long Island, where their remaining six children were born. In 1964, Charles’ career as a Pan American pilot led them to Berlin, Germany. Peggy and Charles rented their house, packed up the family of nine and moved to West Berlin, where they lived for 2 years. She knew no German, lived in an apartment in the middle of Berlin, and that smile and positive attitude never wavered for a moment. The family moved back to the very same house they had left in Massapequa and seamlessly renewed their connections. They were blessed with those friendships for the remainder of their lives. They retired to Florida in 1980 and shared 28 happy years in the sunshine state.
Peggy was a devoted wife and mother to her seven children. Her radiant smile and genuine care and concern for all those her life touched, continues to be an inspiration.
She was a devout Catholic, loved the Lord and happily offered her service whenever she was asked. She served Special needs children in their beach community in New York, and later became a Eucharistic minister, serving communion to the homebound in Orlando. She spent her life in service to others, always putting their needs before her own.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Capt. Charles T. Hawkins, Sr., and their son Timothy Healy Hawkins.
She is survived by her children, Charles T Hawkins, Jr.(Barbara), Nancy Heffernan (Michael), Kathy Sanford (Fred), Charlotte White (George), Margie Brandes (Robert), Dorothy Trotta (Steve); 12 devoted grandchildren and 10 beloved great grandchildren.
Arrangements for the Celebration of Peggy’s life have been entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida.
A short viewing will be held, Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 5:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 6:00 pm, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5125 S. Apopka Vineland Road, Orlando, Florida 32819, in the Daily Chapel.
Peggy will be laid to rest with her dear husband at Fountains Memorial Park, Homosassa, Florida.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared in the online guest book below.
