Herbert W. McKinney, 82, passed away December 21, 2018 just shy of his 83rd birthday. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of eighteen. He served two years as a Special Weapons-MP and served another 4 years as a Reservist. He returned home after his time in the military and became a City of Homestead Firefighter. He went on to start his own business, South Dade Water Conditioning and eventually sold his company to Culligan Water and worked for them for several years. Later he was employed by Dade County Water & Sewer as an electrician. He found this to be his passion and was soon promoted to Electrical Supervisor. In 1987 he took a fall that left him with a permanent injury that forced him to retire from the job he loved.
Herb was a gifted craftsman. He was known for his woodworks and often gave them away or donated them to a good cause. He was an easy going guy with a great smile and a generous spirit. He would give you the shirt off of his back and he had a way of making you feel like part of the family even when you weren't. He enjoyed watching sports, always rooting for the underdog.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Christine; daughter Tara McKinney (Phillip); son Kevin McKinney (Linda); grandsons Johnny Capadagli, Chad Capadagli, Cody Capadagli; great grandchildren Katrina Capadagli, Keira Capadagli, Aiden Capadagli; niece Michelle Nesbitt; his beloved Schnauser Bonnie; Parrot Nonnie and a host of cousins, nephews, neighbors and friends. He is preceded in death by daughter Lynne Capadagli (John).
Arrangements have been entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, December 29 at 1:00 pm with a service to follow at 2:00 pm. Military honors will be rendered at 3:00 pm.
