Frank Donald Harrison, Sr. of Orlando, Florida stepped into heaven on October 11, 2024 at the age of 102. He was born on January 7, 1922 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to the late Howard & Alphe (Potts) Harrison. Frank served in the United States Air Force during World War II as a gunnery officer and as a marksmanship instructor. He rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel retiring in 1965 with full Honors.
He met his beloved late wife, Billye Jo, during World War II while stationed at Walnut Ridge, AR. They were married 1943 in Union City, TN after a whirlwind courtship before he was deployed. Their marriage stood the test of time building their family as they moved all around the country during Frank’s service.
Frank received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska. Upon retiring he moved the family to Orlando where he became an elementary school teacher at Tangelo Park Elementary School. He later earned his Masters at Rollins College and continued his legacy of service as Assistant Principal at Westridge Junior High School.
A man of many interests and talents, Frank even entered local politics for a while, serving as city councilman in the community of Edgewood, Florida.
Beyond all of these achievements, Frank was all about family. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. He was VERY proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved beach trips, boating on Lake Conway and having the whole family and friends over for big, traditional family gatherings on every holiday, as well as pool parties on the weekends.
The family will always cherish their many memories of time spent together.
A good life leaves behind seeds that keep on growing:
Frank is survived by his children, Frank Jr (Pat), Howard “Ike” (Debbie), and Edward “Tim” (Debbie); grandchildren, Daphne, Matthew, (Erin), Kaylee, Amy, David, Michael, (Stephanie), and Jarrod; great grandchildren, Josie, Leila, Avery, Griffin, and Elliott; and brother, Gerald “Pete” Harrison
