He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Edward R. Jensen, Jr. & Janet Jensen of Loveland, Ohio; Daniel J. Jensen & Sheryl Jensen of Ocoee, Florida; Robert Joseph Jensen & Deborah Jensen of Burr Ridge, Illinois; Elena Jensen of San Antonio, Texas; and, his sister, Doris Sammarco. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Jensen; his son, Raymond Jensen; his daughter, Marie Joanne Jensen; his brothers, Walter Robert Jensen and Robert Jensen; and, his sister, Marion Pisano.
Grandpa Jensen remained very active and alert up until his last week of life. He was a kind, loving man who cared greatly for his family. He never missed a birthday, or failed to send a birthday card to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in his very large family.
Grandpa was born in 1921, a child of the Great Depression, in Jersey City, New Jersey. From his home, he witnessed the construction of the Empire State Building across the Hudson River. His education and ambitions were thwarted by his service in the US Army during WWII in New Guinea and the Philippines. During that time, he had to leave his young, pregnant bride, Marie, his one year old son, and his unborn son to serve and protect his country. After his return home at the end of the war, he pursued a career in Food Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in New Jersey, New York and Chicago, earning his degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute at night by commuting on the Long Island Railroad. At one time, he was a partner and owner of an edible oil and shortening company in Bayonne, New Jersey. He is the holder of multiple patents in food and starch chemistry applications from his time employed as a research chemist with Corn Products Company in the Chicago area.
A 30+ resident of Volusia County, he lived in Ormond Beach, Daytona Shores and Daytona Beach; and, maintained a second home in the Chicago-Hinsdale area in the latter years of his life. He would make the drive up to the Chicago area in the beginning of summer even when he was in his nineties.
We, the survivors, grieve the loss of our Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend~ and, will miss him greatly. However, we rejoice in the knowledge that he is in the loving Hands of his Father and Jesus, his Savior.
