Bernice (Bernie) Berkey Allen went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Bernice was born May 18, 1925 in Capels, West Virginia, to Lester and Mary Berkey.
She was a graduate of Welch High School in Welch, West Virginia, and Jones Business College in Orlando, Florida. Bernie retired in 1990 after a distinguished career in accounts receivable for both Heintzleman’s Ford and Red’s Market in Orlando.
A member of Dover Shores Baptist Church in Orlando, Bernie was a gentle, loving and caring soul. And not having any children of her own, she took care of younger family members as if she were a second mother.
She loved yard work, keeping her home in immaculate condition, travel, and most especially dancing. She taught all her siblings to follow in her footsteps. Bernie was preceded in death by her father, Lester Berkey, her mother and beloved stepfather, Mary and Claude Henderson, her sister Margaret Moorefield, and her long-time companion, Wesley Middlemiss.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother, George D. Henderson; her sisters, Patricia Foster and Claudia (Robert) Hunter and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-2pm Monday, July 30, 2012 at Woodlawn Funeral Home followed by a 2:00pm service. Arrangements entrusted to Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, Gotha, FL (407) 293-1361. Condolences may be offered at www.woodlawnfuneralhomegotha.com.
