Andrew Francis Bamberger

Andrew F. Bamberger, known by friends and family as “Andy”, was born in Queens, New York and passed away in Tampa on January 27, 2024 after a 2-year battle with cancer. He was 73 and youthful in spirit to the end.

After Andy graduated from St. John’s University, he became one of the founders and the first president of the school’s television club. One of his earliest post-graduation jobs was at the Children’s Television Workshop, where he served on the critically acclaimed science series 3 2 1 Contact. He then joined the then-new cable network, Nickelodeon. As one of their early employees, he produced and directed shows such as Nick Rocks and the cult classic, Total Panic. He moved to Central Florida in 1990 to open Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios as their first Vice President of Production. Often referred to as the “Golden Age of Nickelodeon”, he oversaw live-action productions such as the groundbreaking series Clarissa Explains it All, Roundhouse, Allegra’s Window, Welcome Freshman, Hi Honey I’m Home, GUTS, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Family Double Dare, and Launch Box, in partnership with nearby NASA.

After several years at Nickelodeon, Andy was recruited by Walt Disney World Television Productions to lend his talents to a variety of Disney series and their high-profile ABC Christmas and Easter Specials. After Disney, Andy co-founded A&R Media Group, which produced the pop culture classic, “The Pet Psychic '', for Animal Planet and also directed several nationally syndicated television specials.

Besides his talent, Andy was known for his kindness, humility, and humor. Throughout his career, he mentored scores of young creatives who have become a new generation of writers, directors, and producers who, in-turn, continue to honor his spirit by producing the next generation of television series.

Though he cared deeply about what he did in television, Andy made it clear to everyone he knew that his greatest love was his family, and his greatest passions were being a father to his two daughters, Lauren and Diana, and Pops to his six grandchildren: Josh, Jacob, James, Grayson, Cooper and Annie Nina. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Virginia, and his beloved wife, Nina.

His family invites his friends to join them on Sunday, February 25, from 3-6 pm for a memorial at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 26th at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5125 Apopka-Vineland Road, Orlando, Florida.
