Alvin H Roeder

ROEDER, ALVIN H.- Alvin Henry Roeder, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on September 24th, 2011. He lived a very long and fulfilling life. He was born in Cincinnati,OH on Nov, 5th 1921. Following childhood during the Great Depression, he graduated from Roger Bacon High and then went on to Wright Aeronautical to learn a trade for the impending war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 which later became known as the US Air Force where he served in Manchester, England as a B24 Liberator engine mechanic. Ending his service for his country in 1966 in Madrid, Spain where he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant; Alvin then chose home in Orlando, Fl where he found a career with and retired from the US Postal Service. He is survived by his wife of 55 yrs: Doris Roeder.1 sister: Lucille DeLong. 3 sons: John Roeder, Tony Roeder, Charles Oberlin. 2 daughters: Wonetta Hart, Barbara Gagen, and 11 grandchildren. He was loved by all of his friends and relatives alike. So as he wrote before he passed... "I sent my soul thru the invisible for some letter of that after life to spell by and by my soul returned to me and answered I myself am heaven and hell." He always said "Old soldiers never die they just fade away." and so as he lived proud and with peace of mind he regularly enjoyed the simple things like watching a good baseball game and having a Gin and Tonic and some pizza or playing a game of poker well into the end of his life. So many things are missed in this final summary and a million nice things will remain unsaid but as he grew up from McMicken Ave in the 20's, to the war in the 40's, and England and Spain in the 50's and 60's where he met John Wayne, and into the 70's and on where he raised the flag and saluted it everyday until the end of his life he lived as the most compassionate and caring person one would ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back and wouldn't think twice about it. If you had the chance to know or have been cared about by him, then may you forever feel him with you and cherish his memory. A final viewing was held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Orlando, FL on Sep, 26th 2011. There he will be cremated as per his wishes and remain in his final resting spot. Keeping our strength of mind in this loss, I draw peace and happiness from some of his final words to me where he said "Don't fret, Don't cry, Don't sob; God has given me a new job." It was then I knew he was at peace with his life and accomplishments and was ready and willing to submit himself to what he believed in. We should all be so lucky to live and die like that.
