Valrie relocated from Texas to Arizona in 1969 and immediately began her service in the nursing profession. She retired as an employee with the Washington School District. After her retirement she continued her devotion in the medical services field by volunteering several days a week at Bethany Baptist Hospital. Her family remembers her for her unlimited love and compassion for all animals. She directed her energies as a volunteer with Halo Animal Rescue. Every winter she would celebrate the holidays and travel to Flagstaff, AZ to attend Snowball festivities. Her neighbors tell us they will always remember how she frequently walked her cat Rusty with his harness and leash around the neighborhood. Her journey will end with her cremains joined with the cremains of her beloved cat, Samantha, her loyal companion of 22 years.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to all of the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff at Bethany Baptist Hospital and the Mayo Clinic for their care and support in Valrie’s final days. To Valrie’s friends and neighbors, especially Pat, Joe and John, thank you for your kindness to us during this difficult time. Lastly, over the years, we remember Mark as Valrie’s devoted friend and companion.
Valrie was preceded in death by her father Allie Gilbert Lawler, mother Martha Rachel Lawler, and brother A. G. Lawler. She is survived by her sisters Marti Way and Glenda Williams. Valrie is also survived by her beloved feline companions, Rusty and Pepper. Remaining together as Valrie wished, they have already found a loving forever family home.
Burial will be at Garden of Memories, Sweetwater, TX. In honor of Valrie’s life’s work, the family suggests that donations be made to Halo Animal Rescue, Phoenix, AZ or the Animal Humane Society.
