My sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Meder.  I remember him as a kind man, a well respected and much loved teacher, and a world class Ohio State fan. 

Washington High School was blessed to have him as a gifted teacher who made a difference in the lives of so many students.

I want to extend my sympathy to the Meder family, and to express my extreme sorrow upon hearing of his passing. He was an extraordinary teacher and FFA advisor, and an extraordinary individual. He treated all of his students with respect. He not only taught us about agriculture, he taught us to believe in ourselves. It was in part due to his guidance that I pursued a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the UofA. And the leadership skills I developed in FFA served me well throughout my career. The world has lost a great man, but heaven has gained another angel -- one with a keen sense of humor. 

Godspeed, Richard Meder. You were one of a kind.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Mr Meder. The WHS Class of 81 just had our 35th Reunion and once again, Mr Meder was a topic of conversation as he has been every reunion. Mr Meder was the favorite teacher of so many students. I've never heard anyone say a negative word about him. High praise for a high school teacher. He will never be forgotten. Not only did many of his students go on to careers in Agriculture or Horticulture but many are still friends today after bonding in his classes. My own 25 plus years working in Horticulture are due to him as well as my continuing obsession with gardening. I think of him fondly every time I step into my greenhouse.

I am saddened tonight to hear of Mr. Meder's passing recently.  Mr. Meder made a major impact on my life, becoming not only my high school Ag. teacher and FFA advisor, but a lifelong friend.  I had Mr. Meder as a teacher/advisor from 1973-1977.  I served as his first female FFA President and later went on to serve as an AZ. FFA State Treasurer.  Mr. Meder influenced me in pursuing a dual degree in Horticulture and Agriculture Education at the U of A, and becoming an Ag. Ed. instructor and FFA Advisor in Mesa and Yuma,Arizona.  The last time we visited was two years ago when I was in Phoenix for Christmas.  Our conversations would always pick up from where we left off the time before.  He would ask about my boys and husband, who is an Ag. Ed. instructor in Colorado.  I will miss our conversations, Mr. Meder.  You were a terrific teacher, mentor and friend!!    Kathryn and family, my deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with all of you with your great loss of this wonderful man!!!  Rest in peace, Mr. Meder!!!

Mr. Meder was my favorite teacher in high school. I never looked forward more to a class like I did Agriculture and Horticulture. He had us laughing while learning. I have so many fond memories of my days in classes with Mr. Meder; working in the greenhouse and garden; raising steers, rabbits, chickens, sheep; gathering honey; Future Farmers of America - the list goes on. Mr. Meder inspired my love of agriculture and the earth. I went on to college to study agriculture and animal science. And I owe my 30+ year career in Agriculture and Environmental Sciences to Mr. Meder. Mr. Meder's mentoring and influence in my teenage years is written all over my life since high school. Mr. Meder for me will always be the perfect of example of how important teachers are in a child's life. He made such a positive impact on my life and career.
My sincerest condolences to the Meder family on your loss! I have no doubt that his presence will be missed terribly. May you find peace in all of the happy times and memories and in knowing that his legacy lives on through his family and in all of the many lives he touched and in all that he did.

Dick's unique out look in life was very simple-"there is nothing that we can't do" This is also a tribute to his life long partner Kathryn. His wit and humor will be missed.

I graduated WHS 1975 and my best memories are of Mr. Meder's Ag classes.  He made a lasting impression on me and helped me see the potential I could have in the agriculture industry, even as a numbers person.  He was one of the most influential people in my young life and continues to inspire me to be the best person I can be every day.  40 years later I'm still in the agriculture industry and very fortunate to have crossed paths with him every now and then through his daughter's business.  I am so thankful and grateful for his guidance.  God Bless You.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow over Dick's passing.  He was a good man who lived his life with integrity and character.  We were so blessed growing up two doors down from the Meders.  We have the best childhood memories with all of you.  Sharing quality times at Sts. Simon & Jude,  the Washington swim team, neighborhood barbecues and WHS among many more.  Our parents will be greeting Dick in heaven.  We miss and love you all, Elaine Hansch, Kevin Noonan and Denise Russell

Mr. Meder was the single most influential teacher I ever had.  I will always be grateful for his positive guidance at Washington HS in 1959 through 1961. His FFA leadership  provided me with opportunities that became the foundation for my successes in later life. He was a wonderful teacher and kind person.
