Linda “Deda” Ann Barbee of Goodyear, Arizona passed away December 21, 2023 at the age of 81. She was born February 13, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona to the late Harold Newman and June (Coulman) Rees. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Michael Newman and Arville Newman and her sister Mary Newman. Linda is survived by her loving husband Carl Barbee, her children Rhonda King and Robby McOwen, her sisters Louise Banks, Susan Garcia, Sally Maddux, Patty Robjohn, and Sandra Higbee, and her brothers Bill Newman, James Newman, David Newman, and Robert Rees. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Linda was born and raised in Arizona. She grew up on a dairy farm in Tolleson where she enjoyed working outside and helping to milk the cows with her dad and brothers. She was the second oldest daughter of eleven children and spent much of her time looking after her younger siblings, especially her brother David. After her first marriage, she worked at the Goodyear Aerospace Building. It was there she met her current husband Carl Barbee. They would have been married 40 years this coming March.
Linda loved babysitting. She babysat most of her grandkids, great-grandkids, and some nieces and nephews. She loved to watch them play in any sport that they participated in. Her favorite sport however, was football. In her free time, Linda also enjoyed working on crafts and going bowling. Her passing leaves us broken-hearted, but her memory will live on in her legacy of family.
A visitation will be held at 6pm, Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Thompson Funeral. A funeral service will be held at 10:30am, January 5, 2024 at Christ Church of the Valley - Avondale. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery at 12:15pm, Friday, January 5, 2024. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, Arizona.
The family requests attendees wear their "Sunday Best" for the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to The Boys and Girls Club of Arizona.
