Our beloved Kevin Lee Hunter, 63, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Goodyear, Arizona on February 18, 2024. Kevin spent a lifetime cruising the highways, working hard, and helping many people along the way. He was born on May 12, 1960 to Ralph and Christine Hunter in Rigby, Idaho. He was the third child born into the Hunter family and from the beginning showed he was going to march to the beat of his own drum. From the time he was small, Kevin loved working with his hands and was naturally curious about how things worked. This led to him taking apart any number of toys, small machines, and eventually cars (but not all of the items were put back together into their original design).
Kevin liked to live and enjoyed life. He had a flare for adrenaline and bent the rules a bit, but you could always count on him to help you out if you needed something. He helped his parents (and others) out in later years by helping around their house and taking care of the small projects that needed to be done. He was very willing to help others and would drop everything to lend a hand to someone in need. He was very thoughtful and remembered his mother loved flowers, and would send her flowers on her birthday and Mother’s Day. He spent many hours with his children and grandchild and enjoyed seeing them grow (and teaching them a love for all things wheels).
The family moved to Shelley in 1962 and as a child he learned how to work hard in the family owned business, Hunter Timber, where he spent summer in the woods logging, building pallets, and building potato cellars. He attended Shelley schools and graduated from Shelley High School in 1978. After graduation, he worked in Shelley for several years at French’s, but in 1986 was hired by his Uncle Vic where he worked in construction and moved to Bullhead City, Arizona for this job. He eventually moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he managed warehouses for CTI and then moved on to Spring Air Mattresses Co. Not one to put the brakes on ambition, he built his own business, KDK Construction, where he put the construction skills learned earlier in his life to use and built his legacy through renovations.
In his spare time in his early years he loved to downhill ski and spent many weekends at Kelly Canyon. Kevin could be found tinkering under the hood and participating in all things related to cars. He loved Hot Wheels and spent many a morning heading to the local big box store to scope out the newest shipment to add to his collection. Nascar races, quads, motorcycles and boats were not just hobbies, they were how he met his need for speed! He attended many Nascar races with his brothers, sister, and parents.
He loved and cherished his family and they were his pit crew through life. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his navigators, son Kristopher and daughter Morgan; grandson, Bentley; parents Ralph and Christine Hunter; siblings Debi Hunter Croft, Jeff (Jenni), Troy (Jenny), Dustin (Pam), and Ryan (Kristi). Together, they fueled his passion for life and love.
Family and friends will celebrate his life in Goodyear, Arizona on March 2, 2024. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with services following at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 301 W Wigwam Blvd. Litchfield Park, AZ 85340.
As his checkered flag is waved and he is remembered for his laughter, smiles and love, he will be laid to rest in the Shelley Cemetery at 12:01 PM on March 7, 2024. Burial will be arranged by Nalder Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Kevin’s name to Heart Association or Parkinson’s Foundation.
