John R. Westerberg of Litchfield Park, AZ went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 27, 2010 in Mesa, AZ. He was born October 30, 1925 in Rockford, IL to John F. and Edith A. Westerberg. He graduated from East High School (Rockford, IL) Class of 1943 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps on August 19, 1943. He served until May 3, 1946, being discharged as a flight engineer. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 and was employed by National Lock. Mr. Westerberg retired from Weber-Knapp Company (Jamestown, NY) in 1989. He made Litchfield Park, AZ his permanent home in 1990, moving from northern IL.
John had an intense interest in aviation resulting in him earning his private pilot’s license. He also enjoyed family, golf, fishing and travel. John was a charter member and past president of the Elk Grove Lion’s Club in IL.
He was predeceased by his parents and former wife and friend, Marilyn Westerberg in 2007.
Survivors include: his son Robert, daughter-in-law Sandy of Chandler, AZ and daughter Ann of Loves Park, IL along with several cousins.
Cremation rites were accorded and private interment will take place at a later date in Rockford, IL. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Hospice of the Valley, especially staff at Friendship Village Hospice: Cheryl, Kathy and Kevin for their loving care and concern and Chaplain David Foster for his guidance.
