John (known as Jack to many) hustled and worked hard all his life. Jack joined the Navy in 1965, proudly became a police officer in 1967 and retired in 1988. Jack married the love of his life, Camille, in 1968; raised three children; attended the New York Institute of Technology and graduated with a BA in 1978. He often times worked two jobs to ensure his family was provided for and that he also had money to save. After he retired from the NYPD, he worked for 23 years at a security firm as a trainer.
Jack loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and Camille enjoyed adventures on cruise ships and created memorable vacations for their kids and grandkids as well. Jack loved going to the movies, eating popcorn, telling jokes to strangers, playing blackjack at the local casino, and attending any free show that he could get tickets for via vet-tix. Among his greatest strengths, Jack would make others feel comfortable no matter the situation, and would leave a memorable impression on everyone he met.
Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Camille Hammond. He is also survived by his children: John Hammond III (Laura) of Bellmore NY, Robert Hammond (Connie) of Newbury Park CA, and Christine Hopple (Stephen) of Goodyear AZ; and seven grandchildren: Max, Dylan, Jason, Decker, Katherine, John, and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his father, John Sr.; mother, Helen Mislosky; and sisters, Beverly and Maryann.
A visitation will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, Arizona. A mass will be held at a later date at St. Bernard Church in Brooklyn, New York.
