Our beloved father Cottrell Harding Brown was born on May 12, 1922 in Athens, Tennessee to Ms. Lizzie Brown. He joined the U. S. Army on December 13, 1942. He served in Co C 827th Tank Destroyer Bn and was a decorated World War II veteran. Cottrell married Mavouneen Smith on August 6, 1965 in Toledo, Ohio. For 26 years he was a loving and devoted husband. Cottrell was employed by the Chrysler Motor Company - Detroit for a number of years and retired from Chrysler Motors in 1981. Mavouneen passed away on February 1991.
On October 18, 1997 Cottrell married Addye Nell Smith in Detroit, Michigan. Their son, Rev. Julius Aaron McKanders (deceased), officiated. After residing several years in Westland, Michigan, the couple moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Cottrell and Addye enjoyed ten blessed, wonderful and beautiful years of marriage prior to Addye's death in December 2008.
Cottrell loved baseball and old western TV shows and movies. He was a long time Detroit Tigers fan and became a devoted Arizona Diamondbacks fan after moving to the Phoenix area. He also loved and was devoted to his Christian Church families in Detroit and Phoenix.
Cottrell leaves to celebrate his life, two sisters, Rachael Robinson and Helen Collier, one brother Daniel Cox, all of Athens, Tennessee; and several children - Larrestine Trimm of Chandler, Arizona; Geralyn Neal (husband Clarence) of Goodyear, Arizona, Kenneth McKanders (wife Carolyn) of Houston, Texas, and Eddie Smith (wife Pamela ) of Jackson, Mississippi, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
