Shirley worked for Metro Nashville School Mothers Patrol, WSM TV, and then for the remainder of her career at the office of Dr. Marvin Gregory.
She graduated from East High School in 1955. She remained involved with the Alumni Association of East High School for many years.
Shirley was a life long member of the church of Christ. Having membership at Joywood, Jackson Park, and White House Churches of Christ. She was active in teaching the toddlers class for many many years. She sang with a quartet which also included her sister, Janet, brother in law, James and close friend John Claibourne, Sr., at weddings, and funerals.
Shirley was involved in most every wedding or baby shower ever given at any of the churches in which she was a member. Shirley was a loving, and giving person. Who has been described as beautiful in every way, generous, unwavering hospitality, vibrant smile, jolly laugh, a giggler, an avid reader of many books to all of her babies, always willing to help with school projects if asked, and hosting the grandchildren and friends at their pool.
Shirley was molded and led by an awesome example, set by her parents, known as Memo and Papa Marlin. She also carried on their tradition of hosting her family on all holidays at her home after the passing of her parents; up until she was no longer physically able. Her family hope to carry on her legacy, if only a small portion. In today's times, most of what Shirley actively did, is almost unheard of.
Shirley's family want to thank, White House Health Care, nurses, staff and Administration, who were amazing and who grew to love her quickly in her short stay there. Also, many thanks to the nurse, social worker and chaplain of Adoration Hospice, who did an amazing job on keeping her comfortable and cared for until the end.
A Graveside service will be held 10 am Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Shirley’s grandson, Craig will be the speaker for her graveside service, with long time family friend, Marion Claibourne adding remarks and closing prayer. Pallbearers will be: Rex Jackson, Mark Jackson, Brian Jackson, Craig Jackson, Scott Claibourne, Curtis Claibourne, Jay Rummage, Larry Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Tennessee Children’s Home in Spring Hill, TN.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestLawnFuneral-Goodlettsville.com for the Jackson family.
