Born in Nashville to the late Fred and Irene (Neal) Young, Sam is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Evelyn; and a baby brother Billy Young. He is survived by his children Patricia Carter (Mike) and Ronald Young (Denise); grandchildren Kevin Carter (Holly), Fred Carter (Margie), Adam Carter (Julia); great-grandchildren Kinley, Carly, Noah, Brielle, Lincoln; several nieces, nephews and other beloved extended family and dear friends.
Sam proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a hospital corpsman. Growing up in the era of the Great Depression, he learned how to live with frugality.
After 13 years of working in the candy business, Sam changed his career and became a realtor for 30 years. He was known in Madison, TN as the founder and publisher of the Messenger newspaper and he also served as president in the past of the Christian Cooperative Ministries. He was a member of Gideons International for 69 years, sat as chairperson for several years with Davidson Academy and even had a local baseball field named in his honor.
Sam was a devoted member and Deacon of Parkway Baptist Church, to which he was very active in before his sickness. He had a kind, generous personality and will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkway Baptist Church, 505 Cunniff Pkwy, Goodlettsville, TN 37072 on Friday, July 7, 2023 beginning at 1pm. Private family burial will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made in memory of Sam Young to Gideons International.
