Margaret “Peggy” Ann Brown Hyde, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024 in Rincon, Georgia, six weeks after the passing of her beloved husband Ray Douglas Hyde after more than 70 years of marriage. She is survived by children Ray Douglas (Leslie Azia) Hyde, Jr., Teresa Hyde (Colin) Saxon, and Margaret Ann (Mark) Hacker; grandchildren Charles Ray (MeLissa) Hyde, Carl, Dora and Tristen Hacker, and Zachary Azia Hyde. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ellen Brown Schenk, brother Charles Leo (Donna) Brown, cousins related to Floy Stark, and many fond nieces and nephews, as well as her treasured chihuahua, Baby.
Peggy was born May 29, 1931 in Nashville, Tennessee. Her parents were the late Joseph Bradshaw Brown and Mary Eunice Brien Brown. She is also predeceased by her late brother Joseph Bradshaw Brown, Jr.
Peggy was a proud graduate of St. Cecilia Academy. After graduation she worked for Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville and the telephone company. She then met Ray the love of her life, followed by being a devoted mother to three children Doug, Mickey and Teresa. She taught Doug how to throw a baseball, took him to the library weekly to get books, gave up her living room for band practice and drove him everywhere to play music. When Mickey and Teresa were young, she was an awesome Girl Scout Leader with the Brownies and Girl Scouts.
Peggy and Ray were very active at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Madison, Tennessee, where they were Eucharistic Ministers. They went to nursing homes after Mass on Sunday to take Communion to the Catholics. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and was instrumental in starting the Divine Mercy Service at St. Joseph Church. She and Ray volunteered at Room in the Inn at Saint Patrick Catholic Church. They spent many weekend retreats at the Trappist monastery Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky. She had a special way with the old and sick and a special way of reaching young people.
She will be missed and forever loved.
Peggy will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Peggy to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry: https://osvhub.com/saintjosephchurchnashville/giving/funds/food-pantry-donation
