Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.
Anyone that met him loved him. He always had a smile and a sparkle in his eyes. He was special.
Jim was born Friday, February 4, 1944 in Little Rock, Arkansas. When he was 11 years old, he lost his mother to cancer and was shifted around from relative to relative but spent most of his teenage years with his devoted brother and sister-in-law until he enlisted in the US Army when he was barely 18. He served 3+ years in the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and then moved to Nashville. He and his wife have lived in Goodlettsville, TN for 39 years.
He worked for the US Postal Service for 28 years, taking early retirement in 1992 after 28 years of service. He started his own business in 1995, replacing headliners in vehicles and continued to work in this business until 2020. He loved being outdoors and thrived in the hot summer weather, loved to garden (veggies) and made a name for himself, near and far, making and sharing his Evans’ Best Hot A$$ Pickles. For 20+ years he raised corn in his backyard and had an annual “Corn Day” event for family and friends. He loved seeing the young children and grandchildren go through the corn rows picking their corn, shucking it and bringing it to him to put into the boiling pot he had going in the back yard. There were years where there were more than 50 in attendance.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 9th, 2025, from 10:00 – 12:00 PM and a memorial service from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1150 Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, Tennessee 37072.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at LBDA.org.
