James (Jim) Edward Dyer, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95, on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Over the course of his long life, Jim made an impact on countless lives as he was known for his loyalty, his great love for family, his quick wit, his interest in others, his humility and his service for his beloved country.
Jim leaves behind a loving and devoted wife of 72 years, Nola. Together they settled in Nashville in 1968 and created a heritage of dedication to family and one another. He is also survived by his children Vickie, David and Michael; grandsons Brian Williams (Annemarie Maxwell), Kevin Gordon, Mikey Dyer, Dwayne Gordon, Travis Dyer; granddaughters Denise Dyer and Angie Dyer; great-grandchildren Andrew, Alex and Dieu Kai Williams, Kirkland Manglogiannis, Evanthia Prince, Mia and Genesis Gordon; as well as other beloved extended family and dear friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, a son Dale Gordon and a granddaughter, Tammy Oliver.
Born in Ralston, TN to the late Blanche Lee and Asa Dyer, Jim left school at 6th grade to help support the family, a work ethic that continued throughout his life. At the age of 17, Jim had his mom sign him into the United States Navy early, which began a career and love of military service. He continued into the United States Air Force for 23 years, where he served during WWII and retired with Honors. He then joined Third National Bank as the beloved armed security guard, spending 18 years protecting the bank and never meeting a stranger. Never one to retire and be idle, in his later years he stayed busy crushing cans, delivering caskets, working at Phillips 66, and was always up for a visit and a cup of coffee.
A visitation for James Dyer will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 10am to Noon with a funeral chapel service to begin at Noon and burial to follow, all at Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN.
