Lucille Ann LaCroix Oubre, a longtime resident of Gonzales, LA departed this world at her residence on May 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 28, 1932 in White Castle, LA, the daughter of Samuel LaCroix and Hilda Ramagos. She graduated from White Castle High School in 1951 where she lettered in basketball and softball. She wed her late husband John Allen Oubre on January 19, 1952 and began their lives together in Virginia and then Alaska during her husband’s army deployment. Upon returning to Louisiana they eventually settled in Gonzales. She was a retired employee of Gonzales City Hall. Lucille volunteered many hours in her community at her children’s and grandchildren’s schools as well as at church and the Fellowship Center. She loved the outdoors and during her retirement she spent many hours working her flower beds. She also liked fishing and the occasional trip to the casino to play her 20 dollar limit. She especially enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and many countries in Europe as well as China with friends from the Gonzales Cultural Committee. She was proud of her French heritage and visited France several times.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and great-grandson Cayson Ducote, brothers Charles, Gary and Richard LaCroix and sisters Margie LaCroix Toups and Alma LaCroix Bajon. She is survived by two daughters, Janna Picou (Perry) of Maurepas, Patti Toye (Pat) of Phoenix, Arizona and three sons Stanley Oubre (Melissa Marchand) of St. Amant, David Oubre (Mallory Batts) of St. Amant, and Jerry Oubre of Prairieville, ten grandchildren Derek Picou, Scott Picou, Kyle Picou, Abbey Toye, Maggie Toye, Lindsey Oubre, Courtney Oubre Massey, Michael Oubre, Rhyley Oubre, Piper Oubre, two step grandchildren Christopher Mann and Kelley Mann Pulley, ten great grandchildren, godchild Robin Bajon Edwards, and niece Dixie LaCroix Boudreaux who was like a sister.
Visitation will be at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 10AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon. Interment will be held at Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and will forever be in their hearts. The family is sincerely grateful to the many friends & family members who have given us support and comfort during this time of loss as well as the nurses and staff of Bridgeway Hospice, especially Felicia, special neighbor Edwina Pinell and caregivers Lisa, Sandra, Rhonda, Julie and Kim for caring for Lucille in her final months.
