A resident of Gonzales, he passed away on Wednesday, December 05, 2012 at Hospice of Baton Rouge Butterfly Wing. He was 77 and born in Chataignier, La on September 16, 1935. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Courville Manuel; daughters, Vickie Manuel and friend, Mike Boyce and Monique Manuel and friend, Kelley Quirk; sons, John Manuel and wife, Patti Aucoin Manuel and Steven Manuel; eight grandchildren, Christy Barbour Martin, Gary Barbour, Dustin Barbour, Jason Manuel, Linsey Manuel Collins, Misty LeBlanc Fairchild, Chris Manuel and Harli Manuel; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Wilda Vidrine; and a brother, Roderick Manuel and his wife, Barbara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Talbot Fontenot Manuel. From high school he went to work for Sears Warehouse in Port Arthur, Texas. Then he worked for Dupre’s Furniture in Chataignier. In 1957 he worked for American Cyanamid in Avondale, La until 1968 as a chemical operator. In 1969 he went to CF Industries in Donaldsonville in operations until his retirement in 1991. He continued to work for CF Industries as a consultant for eight more years. He enjoyed dancing, cooking cracklins, and Bar B Queuing. He was also known as the “sweet potato man”, because he would go to Chataignier and get fresh potatoes and sell them. He was tender hearted and a fair man who enjoyed his family and friends. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Frank Alvarez, Dr. Mark Posner, and Dr. Miletello and to the kind hearted nursed and aid on the oncology floor at the Baton Rouge General Mid City and Butterfly Wing. Pallbearers will be Jason Manuel, Gary Barbour, Dustin Barbour, Todd Collins, Steven Manuel, and Johnny Manuel. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Courville, Roderick Manuel, Rusty Fairchild, Kelley Quirk and Mike Boyce. Donations may be made in his honor to the Hospice of Baton Rouge Butterfly Wing.
