Robert A. “Bob” Burke, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on February 15, 2022. He was born in New York City to Richard & Sarah (née Duffy) Burke on February 6, 1938. Bob married Joan E. Breheny on the 4th of July in 1964 and they treasured 57 years together.
Bob was known for his dedication to family and love of Irish music. He grew up in the Bronx, graduating from Cathedral Prep High School, and served in the Army before beginning a career on Wall Street. He was Head of Equity Trading at Ingalls & Snyder for 29 years. Bob loved vacations at the shore and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus St. Bede Council No. 6828, serving as their financial secretary for several years in retirement.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Richard, Edmond, and Martin. He is survived by his wife, Joan, his children Moira (Jim) Selinka, Robert (Wendy) Burke, Matthew (Rachel) Burke, James (Keir) Burke, Dennis (Monica) Burke, and Sean (Jeff) Burke, as well as eight grandchildren, Connor, Bennett, Sean, Diana, Grace, Patrick, Spencer, and Klara, his sister, Sr. Bernadette Burke, O.P., sister-in-law Ellen Breheny, goddaughters Annemarie Burke, Anne Suter Zuk, Maureen Burke Kuhlkin, and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 3:00-7:00pm on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Werst-La Bella Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Avenue, Glendale, NY.
The funeral Mass will take place at 9:30am on Saturday, February 26, 2022 in St. Pancras Church, 72-22 68th Street, Glendale, NY, followed by burial in St. John’s Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village, NY.
Throughout his life, Bob supported the Glenmary Home Missioners in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations to these orders would be very much appreciated.
