John Shelby Buck, age 83, passed away Monday October 3, 2022 while under the care of Silverado of Thousand Oaks, California and Ms. Bonnie Shetler of Encino. Friends and Family may leave notes and stories on John’s Web memorial at www.glendalefuneralcares.com
John Shelby Buck was born July 28, 1939 in Hiawassee Tennessee, where his Father, John Elmer Buck, was working as a Civil Engineer for TVA building the Hiawassee dam. John's mother, Kathryn Frances (Shelby) Buck, met John's Father at a Sorority dance at the University of Ill. Kay was a graduate of graphics arts. Because of the two John's in the family, John Shelby was known as "Bud" to family and friends. John was a Nuclear Physicist, graduating from the University of Iowa in 1961. John was a man of science, engineering, and an entrepreneur. He has several patented devices regarding ultrasonic and video equipment, and laser technology. John grew up in Sycamore Illinois where he developed his skills for his lifelong passion of golfing.
John is survived by two Sisters, Linda Bedard of Downersgrove IL and Merry Williams and her husband Ted Williams of Rio Rancho NM. John is also survived by his sisters’ children, nieces and nephews, Joe, Anne, Molly, Kristin, Ryan, grandniece Hannah, and grandnephew Peyton.
John is also survived by his daughter Kaye and her two daughters Malorie and Lyndsee, along with two great granddaughters, all residing in Santa Clarita. John helped raise Kaye and her daughters, daughter Terry and her son , Christopher Joseph, “CJ”, and son Ricky. John and the kids’ favorite places were Solvang and any diner that had Crane Claw stuffed animal prizes.
John will also be missed by his friend and Angel, Bonnie Shetler, who helped John through his final journey over the last 4 years. John will also be missed by his lifelong friend, Gary King, from his college days at Iowa State.
John was opinionated with a dry sense of humor and wit, known by the family as “Buck Humor”. John “Bud”, was loved by all, and will be missed and remembered fondly. John, "Bud", is now resting with his Mother and Father in Sun City Arizona, and in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Amen
