We are very sad in the passing of our dear sister. She was a Renaissance woman of our age. She was full of joy and kindness to anyone she met or got to know her. She never complaint much about anything but found the silver lining of the positive. She found ways to help those who were in stress or need of compassion and understanding. Sorry you missed your 67 birthday. Happy Birthday Shelley! Ciao!


David and family, so sorry.  My tears are still dropping and will more so on Friday for our Memoirs class as we all will deeply miss our dear Shelley, our leader, companion, teacher, guidance and friend.  Also at Neighbor alliance on third Sat. of Sept. and each month.  My heart felt sympathies as we know each of you have felt the big loss in our hearts.

It's always a treat thinking of Shelley. No matter what came her way, good or bad, she viewed it with wry humor and graceful acceptance...which made her an inspiration, over and over again. I still quote her to friends, and like knowing that NOW she can see (and enjoy) herself with the perspective everyone who loves her always has.

I met Shelley when she gave a three day workshop on "Writing Your Memoir" at the Teague  Glendale Library about 18 months ago.  David was there to help her.  She was wonderfully encouraging and supportive of my first efforts.  Shelley invited me to join her Grace Church writers' group and later  volunteered to help me get my book into publishing shape.  Despite a very full life and many demands on her time, she generously shared her expertise and talent.  We became  friends.  We experienced so many similar life events and shared so many interests before we met that we wished we had become friends years earlier.  I will miss sharing our lives.

When I first joined Valley of the Sun Romance Writers, Shelley was in charge of programs. She recruited the most amazing speakers and at the end of each meeting, they were presented with a pair of cute socks. I will never forget - not the socks, though that would be hard, but Shelley's wonderful sense of humor, her generous spirit, and her devotion to making sure romance books received the respect they deserved. She spread love wherever she went. I am honored and privileged to have known her. I ran into her about a year ago at a conference was able to visit briefly. We parted with a big hug. I will treasure that memory. And, yes, the socks :)

Shelley was an inspiration to so many.  Her strength, thoughtfulness and insightfulness will always be remembered. Shelley encouraged us to purchase our first house in historic glendale, she welcomed us to First United Methodist church, we shared many meals together, always intriguing and meaningful  conversations. Our youngest daughter used Shelleys book as a reference, writing a research paper on women's fight to vote, later admitting she was required to have five references but that Shelleys one book was all she needed because it was the best book written on the subject and had it all. We will miss Shelley deeply but know her wisdom and inspiration will carry on in the hundreds of lives she touched.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to David and family.

Shelley was a great friend, a fellow writer and librarian. She introduced me to some great contacts when I was first published for which I will always be grateful. I loved her sunny outlook and cheerful smile. She will be missed.

I have known Shelley since we were in junior high school together. I appreciate both her friendship and her mentorship. She was a strong, independent, smart woman who I will miss. She was an advocate for music, writing, reading, libraries, education and for many people like me who needed encouragement and guidance from time to time.

Shelley was my first boss at the age of 18! She was my mentor, boss and friend. I will miss her very very much. Velma Teague will not be the same without her, even though she was retired, she was a big part of our life.

Shelley was kind and caring and a patient listener. She was always available to help others and served the community well. I am glad I had the chance to work at Glendale with her.

A wonderful, kind person and a great librarian! Those of us who knew Shelley will always remember her.

There is a void in my heart since learning of Shelley's passing. She was my friend and colleague. I worked with Shelley on many projects!  She was witty, a walking encyclopedia, a supporter of social services, a supporter of education, and, most of all very supportive in all of our projects. I will miss Shelley, thankfully, I am left with beautiful memories! Rest In Peace dear friend!

Shelley will be missed because she was such a supportive and positive presence in our writing groups. Shelley always got so excited for our victories and encouraged us through our rejections. Thank you Shelley. We'll beet again, dear friend.

One of the very finest human beings I have ever known! Will be forever grateful to Shelley for being so supportive of my writing career. We shared the same professions: librarians and writers. She was such a special person.... My sincere and heartfelt condolences to her family. Bless her memory.

Shelly was a fantastic person, writer, and friend always willing to help, especially for writers. I've never forgotten how she helped me understand how to resolve some of my beginning writing problems.

I'm just so sorry to have gotten the news of Shelley's passing. No finer woman existed. She always had a smile and a positive thought for everyone.

My first memory of Shelley is at the Valley of the Sun romance writers meeting way back when the chapter met at Arrowhead Mall.  That first meeting turned into a critique group partner-ship and then years of friendship through the ups and downs of publishing as well as the Glendale Chocolate Affaire of which Shelley was a major force.
Shelley was a wealth of knowledge (killer librarian!) and a talented author (always humorous).  Her best strength, however, was friendship.
