Jessie Ann Mumau was born in the car as her parents, Mary and Darl Mumau were driving to the hospital in Euclid, Ohio on August 23, 1949. She was the second child in the family of four children. The early years of her life were spent in Lake County, Ohio. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for ten years. After completing a commercial art program in high school she went to work for the May Co. in Mentor Ohio using her eye for fashion to create displays for fifteen years.
In 1983, Jessie moved to Phoenix and attended the nursing program at Phoenix College fulfilling a lifelong dream. At 34, while attending school she worked at Beautitudes where she enjoyed taking care of the elderly then graduated and became a RN in 1989. She worked for several years at Baptist Hospital, then Banner Thunderbird on various floors and ultimately spent the last ten years of her career as a school nurse, another job she loved.
On March 16, 2008 she was baptized at Pureheart Christian Fellowship. She volunteered in various ministries and became a Chaplain through South West School of Chaplaincy, Inc. Jessie loved to read and study the bible. She led many classes over the years, a tradition she continued after her move to Thunderbird Senior Living. Jessie always made sure she had plenty of bibles on hand to give to anyone who needed one.
Jessie passed away April 21, 2024 after battling multiple myeloma for nearly six years. Jessie donated her body to Research for Life and was cremated. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Nancy Darnelle Mumau Moberg. She is survived by her sister Linda (Dale), brother Darl (Rachel), nephews Bryan Henderson, Matthew Henderson, Darl E. Mumau III, nieces Debbie Lutz, Dawn Marie Hogan, Sylvia Mumau, her daughter Delcina and granddaughters Monique, Makyla, Esiquia and Miriah.
A celebration of life for Jessie will be held Monday April 29 at 1:00p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes at 7924 N. 59 Avenue Glendale AZ 85301. Jessie’s request is that you do not wear black. Wear bright colors, possibly with a Hawaiian print. In lieu of flowers Jessie would like donations to go Build A Well-World Vision and Shoes for Kids in Africa.
