She was born on April 26, 1931 to Delbert A. Gill and Bessie V. (Rogers) Gill at their home in Clay County, Illinois; delivered by her aunt. She married the love of her life, Donald L. Murphy, on January 29, 1954 in Flora, Illinois.
Mere words do not begin to describe her legacy as a beautiful, caring, selfless woman who contributed to our lives and this world. Mom never had an unkind thing to say about anyone. She devoted her entire life to caring and giving to others first before her own needs. She could crochet with the best of them, and was an excellent cook and seamstress. She made several dolls, some of the best outfits ever seen, hundreds of blankets, over a thousand scarves for the military, and a multitude of baby booties for the Crisis Pregnancy Clinic.
Bernita is preceded in death by our father, her parents, and her siblings: Helen A. (Gill) Dennis, Carolyn F. (Gill) Harrison, and Roland A. Gill.
She is survived by her four children: Anthony W. Murphy, Dean E. Murphy (Debbie), William D. Murphy (Alison), and Brenda M. Murphy along with 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her brothers G. Earl Gill (Barbara), Galen Gill (Neoma), Henry Gill (Barbara), several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Bernita’s Life will be held 7:00pm on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301.
