Verlyn lived a life of service to his country, community and family. He went to elementary school in a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Milan High School. He served in the United States Air Force from November 1958 to October 1962. He met his wife Anita Pendleton at a bowling alley and that evening he gave her a ride home on his 1955 Harley. Verlyn married Anita on October 2, 1959.
He was interested in aircraft mechanics for the Air Force, which led him to serve in the Air Police. During his military service he was deployed to Tripoli, Libya for a year and a half.
Verlyn and Anita made their home in Platte Woods, Missouri in the house that is now referred to as the “Yellow House”. However, a quieter rural life drew them to Stewartsville, Missouri where they raised their two boys, Ray and Tod. Verlyn served his community as a Boy Scout Troop Leader, 4H Leader, School Board Member and baseball coach.
Upon leaving the military, he embarked on a 36-year career with TWA, starting as a mechanic and ending as a lead inspector. He worked on jet aircraft engines, the Boeing 707 being his favorite. After retiring from TWA, Verlyn drove school buses and charter buses, until fully retiring and wintering in Phoenix, Arizona with wife Anita, and their friends: Bill, Pat, Gary and Carol, and John and Carol.
Verlyn is proceeded in death by his parents, Matthew and Sarah Webb and brother, Gerald Webb.
He is survived by his wife Anita Webb; sons Ray (Jyl) Webb and Tod (Papattanan) Webb; sisters Bonnie (Bill) Jackson and Beverly (Gary) Shepherd; brother-in-law Bill Pendleton; and grandchildren, Mason, Logan, Ashlynn and Justin.
