Samuel, 88, of Gladstone, MO went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 3, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born on August 18, 1929 in Liberty, MO to Samuel L. Wilson, Sr. and Pearl M. Wilson. Samuel proudly served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in the engineering dept. On September 27, 1952 he married his first wife, Bernetta and had 3 children. Samuel sponsored many softball team for his grandchildren under the name of Sam's Badgers. He enjoyed traveling,
gardening, and western movies. Samuel started his sales career selling roofing and then went into car sales at Bill Woods Ford and Van Chevrolet. On July 7, 1995 Samuel married his second wife, Ruby and gained 2 additional children with that marriage. Samuel was a member of the American Legion Post in Kearney and served proudly on their Funeral Honors Teams. He had a strong faith in God and was a member of Metro Baptist Church. Samuel never met any on he didn't like. He will be remembered for his love of family and his quirky sense of humor. His favorite saying was, "Hasta La Vista, and don't take any wooden nickels!"
Preceded in death by his first wife, Bernetta M. Wilson; his parents; his brothers and sisters, Russell Dean, Freda Belle, Leta Jane, Lewis Morris, Annie Orine, Violet Nadine, Mary Melba, Emma Irene, and Harvey "Roy"; son-in-law, Ken Shoffner.
Suvivors include his wife of 23 years, Ruby (Edens) Wilson; children, Debbie Shoffner, Lynn (Steve) Croston, Terry (Cathy) Wilson, Jeff Stever, and Jill Stever; sister, Helen Washam; grandchildren, Brian Shoffner, April Mercer, Travis (Tabby) Wilson, Devon(Travis) Corum, Shelly(Chris) Spencer, Morgan Croston, Blake Croston; 10 great grandchildren, Jocelyn, Riley, Caden, Raegan, Cooper, Cydney, Brayden, Averi, CJ, and Myles and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM Monday May 7, 2018 at White Chapel Funeral Home with a visitation from 1-2 PM, Monday. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to The Wounded Warriors Project.
