He is survived by his wife Mary and his beloved dog Lady, of Gladstone; a son, Andrew, wife Megan and grandchildren Clara and Tate of Fargo, ND; a daughter Molly and wife Hallie of Hyattsville, MD; a sister, Susan Karns of Gladstone; a brother Steve and wife Dee Ann Green of Des Moines, Iowa, and many friends and family members.
Rick was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa on July 16, 1960, the youngest child of Boots and Carl Green of Lamoni, Iowa.
He worked on the family dairy and hay farm and the Lamoni Livestock Auction until he left home.
In school he was a three-sport letterman in football, wrestling, and golf and an active member of the FFA program. He graduated from Lamoni High School in 1978.
Throughout life he enjoyed fishing, camping, shooting sports, carnival games, novelty toys, penny candy, antique farm implements, curly fries, country music radio, and he never saw a dog he wasn’t interested in.
Rick served on the Gladstone City Planning Commission, and was also an alumni initiate of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Delta Delta chapter, at Truman State University.
He entered the apprenticeship program in 1983 and worked for Capital Electric as a Journeyman Wireman in IBEW Local 124 for 37 years. Mr. Green led and worked on several notable construction projects throughout Kansas City during his career with Capital Electric. Some of his projects included the H&R Block world headquarters, the adjacent Power and Light District, Empire Theater, Platte County Courthouse, Children’s Mercy Hospital, the rose garden at Loose Park, and numerous other hospitals, water treatment facilities, power plants, prisons, and education facilities. He was proud of his ability to influence many historical projects and was proud of his knowledge of project logistics, fractional math, and stubborn adherence to detail.
He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with his family.
