Our dear mother, Mary Thompson (Ritter) died peacefully after a long, full life on August 12, 2023. Mary was born on January 20, 1933 in Junction City, Kansas to Emil and Mildred Ritter. She received her bachelor of science degree from Kansas State University, graduating in 1955. There she met Richard and fell in love. They married after their junior year at K-State and just celebrated 69 years of marriage. After college they moved to Kansas City, where Mary began working in the medical field as a medical technologist at hospitals and private practice labs, and later as a consultant.
Her family remembers her as a caring, strong and supportive mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Mary was an accomplished artist who loved to oil paint, sew, travel, read, entertain and play bridge. She was passionate about her Alpha Delta Pi sorority alumni group and Assistance League Kansas City. Mary was a faithful member of Northminster Presbyterian church for 55 years and a dedicated volunteer for the Bloch Cancer Hotline. Generous with her time and dedicated to volunteering and helping others, she let her faith guide her life. She loved to make new friends and take people under her wing.
