Jose was born on January 12, 1947 in Camalig, Albay, Philippines to Jacinto and Josefina Medallada. He graduated from University of the East in Manila, Philippines with a degree in Banking & Finance. Jose married Salvacion “Sally”, his coworker, in 1968. Jose was a professor and acting dean in the Department of Commerce at Catanduanes State College in 1975-1982. In 1982, he moved his family to the United States for more opportunities and a better future. He then worked diligently to provide for his family as a maintenance supervisor and later became a painter at North Kansas City Hospital. He retired after 26 years of service in 2012. He enjoyed retirement spending time with his wife at the casino, and playing with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.
His children remember him as a hardworking father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Jose was accomplished at gardening and often shared photos of his harvest on Facebook. He was a witty individual who loved the Chiefs and who was passionate about his grandchildren.
Jose is preceded in death by his son Francis John Medallada, father Jacinto Medallada, mother Josefina Medallada and sister Susan Medallada.
Jose is survived by his devoted wife Salvacion, daughter Daisy Rodulfo (Don), son Joe Medallada (Bong), daughter Josephine Swanson (Steve), niece Grace Baysa-Ng (Steve), sister Mary Jane Lin, brother Jacinto Medallada Jr. (Leonora), brother Francis Medallada (Malou), brother Jimmy Medallada (Necita), and sister Maribel Francia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica, Donovan, Sophia, Aidan, Samantha, Levi, Dashel, Matthew, Mary Grace, and great granddaughter Amira.
The family would like to thank NorthCare Hospice House and doctors and nurses in North Kansas City Hospital for their exceptional care.
A visitation for Jose will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 6415 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119. A graveside service will follow at White Chapel Cemetery, and a reception at White Chapel Funeral Home.
