Gregory Wayne Smith, 72, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Gregg was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri, on February 9, 1949, to Don and Virginia Smith. He graduated from Central High School, an accomplished track and football player, before attending and graduating from Missouri Western College. He married Victoria Jane Dugan on August 8, 1970, remaining husband and wife until his passing. Gregg studied to become a history teacher after college, but found professional success as a top salesmen for a handful of companies in technology and insurance. However, it was his family where he was loved most.
He was a loving and supportive spouse to his wife Vicki and an amazing father to his three sons, Tristan, Quentin, and McKennon. One of his great loves were family vacations. Family trips were frequent to the Lake of the Ozarks, Branson and Florida where a multitude of memories were created and are cherished to this day. His home was always welcoming and his childrens' friends and neighbors were often welcomed with open arms and a cookout at the Smith home. He loved playing softball, attending Royals games with his sons and was an avid Chiefs fan.
He was preceded in death by his father Don, mother Virginia, step-mother Mary Ann, and brothers Geoff and Scott. He is survived by his wife Vicki; sons Tristan, Quentin and McKennon, grandsons Spencer, Theo, Max, Trey, and Chase; sister Linda; and sisters-in-law Maritta Sumner and Saundra Barquist.
A Celebration of Life for Gregg will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 1:30pm at White Chapel Revelations Mausoleum, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119. His family will be present to welcome loved ones.
The Smiths also had an open home to numerous pets over the years. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Wayside Waifs, a no kill shelter, at waysidewaifs.org
