George was born on June 12, 1934 in Kansas City to Jasper and Barbara (Passantino) Termini. He was raised in Old Northeast Kansas City and graduated from Cardinal Glennon High School. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958, stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California. From his first marriage to JoAnn Spray were born five children, Terry, Tom, Debbie, Tony and Barb. The second marriage in 1975 to his wife Joyce, brought two more children into the family. George was a great stepfather to Chip and Beth Winters.
George worked for the USPS for 30 years as a letter carrier. After retirement from the Post Office, George followed his love for horse racing to become a mutuel clerk at the Woodlands Race Track, where he worked part time for 17 years. In later years, he also volunteered at North Kansas City Hospital in the Cardiac Rehab Unit, where he claimed to be uniquely qualified as he was a three-time graduate of their program!
George loved to travel, spending hours each year plotting out the routes for whatever road trip was on the agenda. He was pretty good at arranging for any tour of national parks to somehow end up in Las Vegas. In his younger years, he played baseball, and he was a really good bowler. He was particularly proud of having shot two perfect 300 games. The last one, in February, 1976, was the first one bowled at Antioch Lanes.
An avid fan of both the Royals and the Chiefs, George was thrilled that he lived long enough to see each team win their second World Championships. George loved to sing, and he wrote poems and limericks for his family. The journal filled with his poems, is a special treasure.
George was a faithful member of Fairview Christian Church. He lived his faith by being a gentle and loving husband and father.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Jasper Termini; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Winters; son-in-law, Bob Goins; and grandson, Steve Quinones.
George is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce; his children, Terry (Aileen) Termini, Thomas Termini, Debra Goins, George “Tony” (Andrea) Termini Jr., Barbara (Mike) Thomas, and Charles (Jill) Winters; his brother, John (Karen) Termini; and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Services will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home on Thursday, November 17, 2022 with a Visitation from 12:30pm - 2pm, and Funeral Services at 2pm. A gathering will be held after services at Fairview Christian Church, family welcomes all to join.
In lieu of flowers, George would love for you to send donations in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 50, Memphis TN 38101-9929 or to The Beth Winters Scholarship Fund with the Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri at 10561 Barkley, Ste 101, Overland Park, KS 66212.
There are many medical professionals to thank for keeping George with us for as long as he was. Most recently, Interim Healthcare and Hospice helped us care for our beloved George. In addition to the physical and occupational therapist, we wish to send a special thanks to George’s Home Health Nurse, Rose Toia, who adds love, compassion, and humor to her medical expertise. Deborah Kasson, George’s Home Instead Caregiver merits special thanks as well. She provided good companionship and care when Joyce had to be out. Thanks to all of you.
