George was born in Odessa, Texas to George and Doris (Ketchum) Lewis. The family moved to Desoto, KS where George attended Desoto HS, graduating in 1962. He would letter in varsity football, basketball, track, and tennis, he was instrumental in starting the varsity tennis program at the school. He had a deep abiding love for the KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks Basketball where he could be found coaching at the TV!!! George enjoyed hunting, showing both Tennessee Walking Horses and bird dogs as well as traveling with Wilma. George was a deacon and active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. He spent 33 years in the auto industry retiring from Ford in 2016.
George married the love of his life and best friend, Wilma Jane McClintock June 1, 1996. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was very proud of all the kids and often said, “he has the prettiest great grandkids” and loved to read to them.
George was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Sherman.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma, son, George, II (Beth) Lewis; daughters, Teri (Byron) VanGilder and Kelli (Brad) Edgemon, brother, Larry Lewis; grandchildren, Alyssa (Sam) Butler, Lindsey (Bobby) Benitz, Austin Edgemon, Max, Jack, and Zax Lewis; great grandchildren, Logan Benitz, Brynlee, Brielle, and Benjamin Butler.
