Gail Ann Cox was born on February 5, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri to Jack and Betty Haddix. She grew up north of the river where she attended Davidson Elementary and North Kansas City High School, graduating in 1965. As a youth, Gail was a featured dancer with Mary Lou Wade’s Dance Studio. This sparked her life-long enthusiasm for fitness. She reveled in the kinship she found in water aerobics, Barre and other fitness classes she enjoyed throughout her life.
In the mid-1960s, Gail met Melvin Cox, who was the love of her life. They married and enjoyed 55 years of love and devotion. Their son, Michael, was born in 1970. The family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1972, where she worked for an employment agency. Gail loved hosting get-togethers around her swimming pool for friends and family. She delighted in extended visits by her mother and father. Gail and Mel moved back to Kansas City where she worked for the Municipal Court as an employment specialist.
After retiring in 2018, she became an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution. An enthusiastic genealogist, she continued compiling a detailed history of her family tree. She enjoyed spending time with her neighbors and friends. Gail looked forward to attending the annual Haddix Family Fourth of July celebration where she enthusiastically joined the kids in sparking a night-long fireworks extravaganza. She loved relaxing in her comfy chair with her beloved dachshund, Teddy, sprawled across her lap. Gail served as a caregiver for her beloved Mel in his later years.
Gail passed on March 25, 2025. She is survived by her son and daughter in-law Michael and Patricia Cox; two grandchildren Cameron and Phoenix Cox; her brothers Chuck (Terri Henges) and David Haddix (Cindy), sister Pam Pastelak; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. She is missed by her many friends.
