She graduated from Hopkins High School with the Class of 1956. Etta worked for her uncle after high school, she then attended Northwest Missouri State.
Etta married Fritz Mutti in 1959; this union was blessed with three sons, Timothy Allen, John Frederick and Martin Kent.
She was a woman of many abilities and passions; she babysat for two children, typed for doctoral students, was a den mother for all three of her sons. Etta enjoyed board games with her family, “Picture Lady” and Player tennis. Etta served as the Church Secretary, even served for Fritz. She was a Youth director and volunteer coordinator; and Cook of the Week. She enjoyed preparing the weekly church dinner, was a Lab school teacher, Co-chair of the UM Global AIDS Fund. Etta was an Advocate for LGBTQ persons, and also served as a PEO member, a board member of AIDS National Interfaith Network, and was a library volunteer. She created an AIDS Quilt block for Tim and Fred along with working for the eradication of HIV/AIDS. Etta was a bridge player and played the hand bells. She attended Miami Open Tennis Tournaments; relaxed on a tour of Kruger Game Park in Africa; walked on the Great Wall of China; visited the Great Barrier Reef; saw the top of Denali in Alaska; stood at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem; marveled at the sight of burning prairies in Kansas; visited the prison where Nelson Mandela had been held; delighted in seeing little penguins appear out of the ocean; toured the Olympic Village and Sydney Opera House in Australia; gave personal story of AIDS in Brazil, Africa and India; received leadership awards; she appreciated an endowment fund being established in her and Fritz’s names and co-authored “Dancing in a Wheelchair”.
Etta read lots of books and created many cross stitch pictures. She loved her three boys more than life itself and had suffered through the death of all three sons. She adored her granddaughter, Siobhan Marie.
Etta loved to cook and entertain, relishing long lunches with friends. She was often complimented on her listening skills and basked in Fritz’s love. Etta was a KU basketball fan and accumulated many friends, and was most content sitting in her porch swing.
Etta Mae left this earth on June 7, 2023 after a long, lingering illness.
Survivors include, husband, Albert Frederick Mutti; granddaughter, Siobhan Marie Perry; in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, many colleagues and friends.
