Brenda Kay Cook

Brenda Kay Cook (Hawn), 67, passed away in the loving presence of her children and grandchildren on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Brenda was born on August 8, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri to Franklin Albert Hawn and Camilla Juanita Jones. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1971. Brenda married Ronnie Eugene Cook, her sweetheart since high school, in 1971.

Over the next 12 years they welcomed four children into their home and Brenda set about teaching them her love for Jesus. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle and creative mother who loved them unconditionally, encouraged them to grow in Christ and to pursue their goals. Brenda began working for the City of Kansas City at Municipal Court as a City Clerk, promoting to Senior Auditor during her 30 year career. Brenda had a passion for teaching children about GOD, crocheting blankets, writing (shorthand/poems/songs/movie reviews). Brenda was a generous, dedicated and creative individual who enjoyed spending time with her family. She looked forward to family gatherings, including the holidays. She enjoyed Christmas most of all, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Nothing made her smile more than watching her children and grandchildren opening their gifts. She enjoyed capturing all of those precious moments through pictures. Brenda was an active and devoted member of LifeBridge Baptist Church for 40 years, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Awana Leader, guiding countless generations of children to know Christ.

Brenda is preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie, her mother, Camilla, her father, Franklin, her sister, Deborah Louise Hawn, her heavenly grandchildren, Cameron, Baby Strong, Baby Flores, as well as her fur baby, Angel.

Brenda is survived by her sons, Shannon Eugene Cook (Lori), Ronnie Dale Cook (Julia), Sherry Kay Maldonado (Jaime) and Karen Ronay Strong (Jeff). Her grandchildren, Ashley (Jeff), Bret (Elissa), Kierston, Kiersten, Nicole, Amber (Luis), Christian (Rebecca), Bre'Yana, Damon (Lexi), Nicholas, Ahston, Dalys, Koltyn, Brooke, Braxton, Wyatt, Easton, Ryland, Rosemarie, Graciella, George, Neves, Ian, Isaiah and Jaime. Her precious fur babies, Coco and Scout and many grand fur babies.

Brenda was a sweetheart of a person, with a heart of gold, who would give her very last of anything, just to help another in need. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed tremendously.

A visitation for Brenda will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at LifeBridge Baptist Church, 3710 N Holmes St, Kansas City, MO 64116 followed by a funeral service starting at 11AM. Burial immediately following at Newcomer's White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO 64119.

Serving as pallbearers are Shannon Cook, Ronnie Cook, Jeff Strong, Luis Flores, Bret Cook, Damon Maldonado, Christian Cook, Ahston Maples-Cook, Jaime Maldonado, Nicholas Maldonado, Dalys Cook and Koltyn Franzeskos.
