Sonny was born on September 6, 1956, in Rolla, Missouri. He was raised in Birmingham, Alabama - which anyone would know based on his accent, grace and unusually appropriate manners. He never, ever spoke to an elder without a “yes ma’am” or “yes sir.” Many people recognized him by his eloquent manners and devotion, and he was so loyal and caring to those he loved. He spent the last 43+ years in Kansas City making a beautiful life for his family. Most recently, Sonny was called “Papa Sonny” by nearly everyone and he loved it.
Sonny was an avid fisherman, hunter and award-winning bar-be-que grill master. Many do not even know how many grills he owns (including Sonya).
Sonny was proceeded in death by his first-born son, Joshua Christopher Roach, whom he loved beyond measure. He is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Sonya, who was his soulmate, best friend, and the love of his life, his two sons, whom he adored and treasured, Jacob (Ashley) and Jordan (Ashley). No one really knew (except Sonya) how much he loved and adored these young men. They are everything to him and he could not have been prouder of them.
He is also survived by his mother Tommy Bender; his father Al Roach (Carolyn); sister Tommy Ruff (Robert); his nephews; and most importantly, his beautiful grandchildren, Raven, Skylyn, Lane and Joshua; plus many family and friends. The best days of his life were raising his boys, spending time with them and their activities, and spending time with his grandchildren, watching them grow and learn. Countless days were spent wishing he could spend more time with the grands.
A celebration of life will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone, Missouri on November 4, 2022, at 5 p.m. Visitation will be held November 4th at White Chapel from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to his precious grandson, Joshua Keith Roach’s, college fund, payable to Sonya as custodian. Contributions can be mailed to the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers are Jacob D. Roach, Jordan C. Roach, Blaine T. Medlock, Matt Barnett and Mark Starks.
Sonny understood and appreciated grief after losing Joshua, so he would not want anyone to be saddened by his passing. He understood all too well that we are destined for a better life - and now he’s with Joshua in paradise.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dwnwhitechapel.com for the Roach, family.
