Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James and Sara Whalen.
Mary Lou loved her family and enjoyed getting together to play cards and have some laughs. She spent over 30 years camping in Ben Eoin Beach enjoying many gatherings with friends and family around the campfire making sure no one went home without a cup of tea. She was a member of the Ostomy Association and in her early year’s coached figure skating.
Surviving is loving husband of 62 years Art; sons, Gary (Sylvia), Todd; daughter Wendy; daughter-in-law Debi; granddaughters, Ashley (Andrew), Alicia (Jeff); step-grandson Joedy (Patricia) and his son Tyler; sisters, Neena, Lucy; brothers, Lou (Patsy), Rannie (Marilyn); sister-in-law Marie Ward, along with many nieces and nephews and a special grand dog Lilly.
She was predeceased by son Sandy, sisters, Velma, Ursula and Hughena, brothers, Junior, Joe and Hank.
Visitation for Mary Lou will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, Nov. 26 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Glace Bay with interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Ostomy Association ,the Kidney Foundation or charity of ones choice.
