We are deeply saddened with the passing of Inglis Horton MacAulay on September 3,2017 at Taigh Na Mara nursing home Glace Bay.
Born and educated in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John H MacAulay and Grace (Horton) MacAulay. He was a member of Knox United Church where he served as elder and on several other committees within the church.
During the Second World War, Inglis served with the RCAF, 418 squadron in Trenton, Ontario, England, Belgium and Holland. Upon returning home he worked for Dominion Coal Company later known as “DEVCO” where he served as Chief of Security until his retirement.
Inglis was a big part of his community where he served as a member of council for Glace Bay, 21 years as Deputy Mayor. He was a member of John Bernard Crook Branch 3 Legion for 55years, Glace Bay Rotary Club where he served as President and had a Paul Harris Award; Past President of the Glace Bay Historical Society, Past President Glace Bay Heritage Museum; Proposed and chair of the Renwick Brook Project; member of the Glace Bay General Hospital Board of Directors and Glace Bay Hospital Charitable Foundation; Boy Scouts Second Glace Bay Troop Knox United Church; Cape Breton Joint Expenditure Board representing Glace Bay; Represented Council on the Board of Directors of the Savoy Theater ; chaired the Council and Citizens Committee for the town’s Year Long 75th Anniversary Celebrations. Inglis also loved flying and attained his Private Pilot License and Ham Radio license VE1MV.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Effie (MacDonald); sister Mary Whitfield; niece Jane Price, Beverly Dean (Dennis); nephews Billy Wadden (Michele), James Wadden(Philly)and cousins Edison and Marion.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother Calvin, sister-in-law Shirley MacDonald; parents-in-law Billy H and Margaret Macdonald ; sister and brother-in-law Bebsy and Allister Wadden, Mark Whitfield and niece Linda Wadden.
Visitation will take place on Thursday September 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9pm in Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held on Friday September 8, 2017 at 2pm in Knox United Church Glace Bay. Burial to take place in Black Brook cemetery.
