Mrs. Elsie MacRury passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, James Stanley MacRury in 1998.
She was the daughter of the late John “Baker” and Jessie (MacLennan) MacKay and was born and raised at South Side Boulardarie. Elsie was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth and Donald Frank and by two sisters, Anna Way and Isabel Cooke. She was also predeceased by daughter-in-law, Lela.
Elsie will be fondly remembered by many who used the Glace Bay Library where she was employed for over twenty years as the children’s librarian. She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay and served as an Elder for over 15 years.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons, Kenneth (Sheila), Chester, NS. and Robert, Glace Bay. Also left to mourn are her two beloved granddaughters, Sarah and Allison and her great granddaughter Allison James.
Visitation for Elsie will be held at Patten Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 30 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
