Zilper Vivian Wheeler, 94, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Wylie, Texas. A lifelong resident of Georgetown, Texas, Zilper worked 70 plus years as a private housekeeper before retiring in 2009 and relocating to Plano, Texas. She was born March 9, 1923 in Georgetown to the late Edmond and Dicie (Gaines) Johnson. She professed her faith in Christ as a child and became a third generation member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and served as secretary for many years. During World War II, she worked as a cook at Southwestern University and welcomed her only child, Ellinor Joyce Johnson in 1947. In 1961, she married Will M. Wheeler of Weir, Texas. Zilper and Will celebrated 19 beautiful years of matrimony until he passed March 3, 1980. Zilper worked for various families in private homes throughout Georgetown until she retired at age 85.
She was a devoted grandparent, mother, and friend to many. She stayed busy throughout her local community by volunteering at the Madella Hilliard Senior Center; delivering food for Meals on Wheels; and serving on various committees for the annual Juneteenth Festival and Georgetown Cultural Citizens Memorial Association.
Zilper was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Dicie (Gaines) Johnson; beloved husband, Will M. Wheeler; sisters, Emma Bunton, Katie Coulter, and Gladys Spicer; and brothers, Edmond Jr, Gordon, Walter, and Marvin Johnson.
She is survived by her only child and daughter, Ellinor Joyce Gadison (Edward) of Killeen, Texas; three grandchildren, Alicia Dixon Miles (Linnex) of Princeton, Texas, Fred Gordon Jr. of Austin, Texas, and Vincent Gordon of Lovelady, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Kenneth Gordon, Lauryn Dixon, Zariah Miles, Malikahi, Trin-Ah-De, and Vincent Jr. (Gordon); nieces, Cheryl Ann Spicer and Gertrude Saterfield of Georgetown, Texas, Sandy Edwards of Austin, Texas, Roslyn Johnson of Temple, Texas, Margie Nell Hopkins of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Winnie Bunton of California; nephews. Robert Spicer of Georgetown, Texas, EJ Johnson of Houston, Texas, and Marvin Johnson Jr. of Georgetown, Texas; and a host of relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, technicians and staff of Garnet Hill Rehab and Skilled Nursing of Wylie, Methodist Cancer Center of Richardson, and Heart to Heart Hospice of Plano for their extended care.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
